Searching
initial dialog is shown below. The following are the rules used for searching:
Upper and lower case do not matter when searching.
A full or partial surname may be entered. The letters entered must match a surname in the
database starting with the first letter of the surname. In other words, the search string “son” would
match “Sontag,” but would not match “Johnson.”
A full or partial given name may be entered. The letters entered are matched within the entire
given name. For example, the search string “jo” would match both “John” and “Marjory.”
The surname or given name may be left blank, but not both.
When doing a search by Soundex code, you must enter the entire surname so that the Soundex
code can be correctly calculated.
After a search completes, tapping on the “Search next” button will repeat the previous search operation,
starting forward from the current individual. A message will pop up if no other person matches.
As an example, in the following dialog, the search strings entered will match the names “Thomas
Darnall” and “John Thomas Darnell.”
