GedStar Pro V3.3

GedStar Pro is the premier product for viewing all of your genealogy data on your PalmOS™ handheld PDA or smartphone. It works with any genealogy program that runs on a Windows PC, and is especially optimized to work directly with the most popular genealogy products, including The Master Genealogist, Legacy Family Tree, Family Tree Maker, and Personal Ancestral File.

Version 3.1 of GedStar Pro introduced support for converting and displaying the photos in your genealogy database, making it possible to view them on your handheld as attachments to an individual or event, or as a slideshow.

Version 3.3 is the final release of the GedStar family of products. PalmOS is no longer being sold on any currently available products, which brings this product to the end of its useful lifetime.

Note: GedStar Pro has not been validated for Windows Vista except for the recent V3.3 update.

What It Does

GedStar Pro allows you to view almost all of the data in your PC-based genealogy program on your handheld device. It is a viewer only and does not allow you to change the data your handheld, but is almost unlimited in the amount of data that it can quickly and easily handle. Its data display and utility features include:

• An intuitive tab and icon-based interface for quick access to multiple data views, option, master lists, and utility functions.
• Displays all standard and custom events in the database, including alternates.
• Full support for source citations, source records, and repositories.
• Can include the full text of notes and memos.
• Search capabilities with filtered lists.
• Support for research notes or to-do lists in programs that support those features.
• Support for the latest handheld screen sizes and navigation features.

How It Works

GedStar Pro has two components that are used together to convert the data from your genealogy program and display it on your handheld:

• On your Windows PC, the GedStar Pro conversion program is available from your Start Menu. After locating your genealogy data and selecting options, the Convert button reads the data and creates a PalmOS database file that is queued up for installation on your handheld the next time you Hotsync it.
• On your handheld device, the GedStar Pro application is available from the standard launcher screen. When tapped, the application opens with your new or updated data displayed. You can also have multiple installed databases, and easily switch from one to the other with a couple of taps.
